Description
Inspired by the massive statue of the Trinity in the Il Gesu church in Rome, this has become the cover for Ascension Press’ program “What We Believe” found here.
As part of the program I worked closely with the team to come up with each composition, and immediately the Il Gesu came up as the primary reference.
The program is a Catechetical dive into the Faith, and our Faith is first and foremost Trinitarian, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Without understanding the Trinity, every other aspect of the Faith falls flat.
So we emphasized the triune nature of the Trinity.
It’s often said that the Spirit is the love between the Father and the Son and as such He takes center stage, rays spreading from that typical dove and forming a triangle between Himself and the Father and Son.
Where the bottom portion of the triangle would be, the Father’s and Son’s hands interact, coalesce and dramatize the scene. God the Father, looking both as priest and emperor, commands, speaking His Word upon the Earth, while God the Son, the Word of God, holding His Cross, both intercedes with a petitioning hand, and at the same time accepts everything with a receiving hand.
Divine Justice and Divine Mercy shown clear. Jesus as our one intercessor between man and God is clear. Three persons, one God. Clear.
