Description
Jesus emerges triumphant from the tomb, arms raised, glorifying the Father. His body is draped in the gold fabric of the glory and power of God. His risen body no longer has the traditional garments of red and blue, signifying the end of His earthly ministry.
The tomb is low, as you would find in Israel. A resting place for the dead to decompose, not a place to stay.
But nonetheless, the garden, as it is described, is dotted with the spring flowers of Jerusalem; vibrant reds and little white flowers enfolded in straggly green leaves suited for the harsh desert weather.
This is one of 12 paintings for the Ascension Press program “What We Believe” found here.
As part of the program I worked closely with the team to come up with each composition, and for this one it was particularly important to emphasize Jesus’s triumph and joy and awe and wonder at the works of the Father. The Son revels in the works of the Father and is filled with an unsurpassed love.
