Description
This is the chapel where I learned how to have a real, authentic relationship with Jesus.
I fell in love with spending time with Jesus daily in adoration, and in a particular way though spending a semester and half falling asleep in His presence every day. By grace, I realized that I would rather be in the presence of Jesus and fall asleep than take a nap in my bed all alone.
What a game changer to realize that. That day I let go of my insecurity about being exhausted and falling asleep and just let Jesus love me. He wanted to see me, who was I to deny Him that?
Any adoration chapel would have taught me this truth, but beauty and simplicity of the Oratory facilitated it.
The tabernacle and monstrance are breathtakingly ornate, fitting for the King of the Universe to reside in. You couldn’t sit in the chapel and forget the connection between Jesus in the monstrance and Jesus in the tabernacle behind and Jesus in the Mass that was celebrated three times a day on the very altar, and the Host – Jesus again – that you received at those Masses.
To worship, to consume, to adore. It all came together in the Oratory.
The Oratory has a Holy card with this prayer: “O my beloved Jesus, the efficacy and fruitfulness of this time of adoration comes not from me but from You. It is all Your doing. I place myself before You as a vessel to be filled”. That prayer stuck in my head. If I prayed it before adoration and I still fell asleep how could I blame myself? To hate myself would be to hate God because He was the one in charge of adoration. If He wants me asleep, or if He wants me awake, that is what will happen.

Oil paint is slightly transparent, letting light bounce through thinner layers of paint to the the lower layers. The brush strokes, everywhere they are even slightly raised, catch the light, and change throughout the day as the light changes. The original painting will hold a depth that is not capturable with a print. There’s no replacing what an original piece looks like, and when you love a piece, it’s always worth it to get the original if possible.
