Description
On the Painting:
Our Lady gazes up towards the Angel Gabriel as he announces that she will become the Mother of God. Her hand rests delicately on her chest, both showing her joy and humility in this great calling, as well as her ascent to the Divine Will.
In the painting at large, not shown in this cropping, we see Mary kneeling in prayer, a reminder that we too must pray in order to know the Will of God. He will not come near when we are distracted my many things, but only in the silence as a whisper.
Luca Giordano lived from 1634-1705. At the beginning of his career he was apprenticed under Ribera (who you will recognize from some of my other master copies) and then had a prolific artistic career for the next 48 years spanning the late Baroque to Rococo eras.

This alla prima study is part of my training arc for painting the Litany of Loretto Marian series, which I’ve begun to develop on my Patreon! You can find out more about it here.
No prints will be made of the master copy studies.
Painted on an archival panel; linen mounted on 3/8″ plywood. It cannot hang by itself, but will fit in most standard 5×7 frames.
