The Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist has always been what has set the Catholic Church apart from other Christian denominations. We don’t believe that the Eucharist is a symbol of Jesus’ Body and Blood, but that through the coming down of the Spirit, actually transforms into Jesus’ Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity and that it ceases to be bread and wine.
For this reason tabernacles have held a particular place in my heart as the resting place of God outside of the Mass and Adoration. This is why they are so highly adorned and detailed.
At the instance this painting commemorates, it is Easter and the laity and priests have decorated the tabernacles with lilies and other white flowers in thanksgiving and adoration of Jesus’ Resurrection from the dead.
