The Saint Michael chaplet has a rich history dating back to a vision of St. Michael to the Portuguese Carmelite Antonia d’Astonac and was approved by Pope Pius XI in 1851. Saint Michael entreated her to honor the nine choirs of angels with specific salutations, coupling each salutation with one Our Father and three Hail Mary’s.

St. Michael promised that whomever would practice this devotion daily would have his and all the angels’ assistance during their life, and deliverance from purgatory for them and their family. Additionally, they would be accompanied with an escort of nine angels (one from each choir) whenever they received Holy Communion.

This chaplet design in particular is created to help you (or your children!)  learn each of the Choirs of angels by the the coloring of the beads; each color is symbolically attached to a different Choir.

The chaplet features silver oxidized beads imprinted with the Saint Michael image on one side and the Guardian Angel image on the other. You pray an Our Father on each of these beads.

Each of the Nine Choirs of Angels are divided into three hierarchies each with a common domain.
-The first hierarchy contain the angels that are the closest to God, praising Him unceasingly. They are symbolized by the shining yellow and the gold beads.

-The next hierarchy operates primarily between the Throne of God and Earth, battling back Satan and his demons, and controlling the elements. They are symbolized by the white beads.

-The last hierarchy is the most in contact with us humans. They are symbolized by the cool blue and brown beads; the colors of the Earth.

Each color ties to the purpose of the angel and to the salutation’s petition.

On each colored bead you pray a Hail Mary.

At 16 inches long, with 8mm beads, this chaplet is roughly the same size as your standard rosary. The chaplet is assembled with 49-strand steel beading wire, crimping beads, and wire protectors, so it is super strong and will last a lifetime of use. While I do strength test every rosary, it is still a handmade piece and prone to human error. So, should it break, simply gather all the beads you can find and contact me and I’ll gladly repair it for you for free sans shipping and the replacement of major beads (if you loose the spacers, don’t even worry about it).

The beading wire stretches slightly as it is used (this is normal – it wears in like good leather boots) so you will still be able to slide the beads along as you pray.

Features of the chaplet:

Center piece: 1″x3/4″ silver oxidized Saint Michael centerpiece with “Pray for us” on the reverse

You begin this chaplet with the Saint Michael centerpiece where you make the sign of the cross as you say “O God come to my assistance, O Lord make haste to help me. Glory Be to the Father…”

You begin to the left in the direction of the translucent yellow beads and work clockwise around the chaplet. Before each Our Father, say the appropriate salutation.

->These shining yellow beads are for the Seraphim whose name means “the burning ones”. Yellow for the shining fire of charity.

The 1st Salutation: “Through the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Seraphim, may it please God to make us worthy to receive into our hearts the fire of His perfect charity. Amen.”

->These gold pearl beads are for the Cherubim who are the throne-bearers of God (Exod. 25:18, Ps. 79:2). Gold for Christian perfection.

The 2nd Salutation: “Through the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Cherubim, may God grant us the grace to abandon the ways of sin and follow the path of Christian perfection. Amen.”

->These gold and white beads are for the Thrones that bridge the gap between the throne of God and the Earth. True humility doesn’t negate our abilities nor does it puff them up; it’s a balance between the two.

The 3rd Salutation: “Through the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Thrones, may it please God to infuse into our hearts a true and earnest spirit of humility. Amen.”

->These pure white beads are for the Dominions who lead the lower orders of angels and guide us to the true lordship of God. Purity and chastity are symbolized with white.

The 4th Salutation: “Through the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Dominations, may it please God to grant us the grace to have dominion over our senses and to correct our depraved passions.  Amen.”

->These tumultuous marbled white and grey beads are for the Virtues who some say control the elements and weather and who are the source of all virtue. The white of virtue wins out over the grey of temptation.

The 5th Salutation: “Through the  intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Virtues, may our Lord keep us from falling into temptation and deliver us from evil.  Amen.”

->These misty clear beads are for the Powers who teach us to follow the true authority of God and never submit to the tyranny of the devil. The temptations of the devil are like smoke and mist; without true substance.

The 6th Salutation: “Through the  intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Powers may God vouchsafe to keep our souls from the wiles and the temptation of the devil.  Amen.”

->These smooth teal beads are for the Principalities who guard over Churches and Nations with unwavering eyes. Unblemished teal for unwavering obedience.

The 7th Salutation: “Through the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Principalities, may it please God to fill our hearts with a spirit of true and hearty obedience.  Amen.”

->These seashore beads that blend the clear blue of water with a sandy brown of the beach are for the Archangels who are the first of these Choirs to interact directly with humans. Like the tide rising and receding, we must persevere in faith in good and bad times.

The 8th Salutation: “Through the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial choir of Archangels, may it please God to grant us the grace of perseverance in the faith and in all good works that we may thereby be enabled to attain unto the Glory of Paradise. Amen.”

->These earthy, multicolored jasper beads are for the Angels who interact heavily with humanity.  Each has a purpose to walk with a specific person each day of our lives on Earth to get us to Heaven.

The 9th Salutation: “Through the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Angels, may God vouchsafe to grant that they may protect us during life and after death may lead us into the everlasting glory of heaven.  Amen.”

After the nine salutations, four final Our Fathers are said, each in honor for St. Michael the Archangel, St. Gabriel the Archangel, St. Raphael the Archangel, and your specific Guardian Angel respectively. The beads here correspond to the above bead choices; three to the Archangel seashore bead and one to the Angel earthy bead.

End with the Sign of the Cross or these final prayers:

St. Michael glorious Prince chief and champion of the Heavenly Hosts. Guardian of the souls of men, conqueror of  the rebellious angels, steward of the Palace of God, under our Divine King Jesus Christ; our worthy leader, endowed with superhuman excellence and virtue; vouchsafe to free us from all evil, who with full confidence have recourse to thee; and by thy incomparable protection enable us to make progress everyday in the faithful service of our God. Amen.

V. Pray for us, O most blessed St. Michael, Prince of the Church of Jesus Christ.

R. That we may be made worthy of His promises.

Almighty and Eternal God,  Who in Thine Own marvelous goodness and pity, didst, for the common salvation of men, choose thy glorious Archangel Michael, to be the Prince of Thy Church; make us worthy, we pray Thee, to be delivered by His beneficent protection from all our enemies, that at the hour of our death, none of them may approach to harm us; rather do Thou vouchsafe unto us that by the same Archangel Michael, we may be introduced into the Presence of Thy Most High and Divine Majesty.  Through the Merits of the same Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Your Impact

For every order, 10% of all proceeds will go to organizations who provide resources to at risk women before and after birth.

The first is The Pregnancy Care Center of Rockford. They area a local organization to me,  providing resources and care for free to women in crisis pregnancies, from ultrasounds to parenting classes to post abortion healing.

The second is the Sisters of Life, a newer religious community founded in 1991 in New York to promote the dignity of every human life. They have houses for women to come live with them during and after their pregnancy as they get back on their feet, as well as counseling for post abortion healing, and other missions.
