Description
I love painting Jesus in the Eucharist. It gives me a physical reminder that He is present in every church and monstrance and all I have to do is walk in.
Since the beginning of the Church, images have been used to represent the metaphysical reality around us and to point us back to the divine God through the stories in the Bible and the Saints.
We paint the saints so we can look at them and remind us that they were a real person who walked this earth. So when we pray to them and ask them for help, it’s easier because we’re looking at them.
So I paint monstrances to remind us of the same thing. It’s not to replace going to the chapel, but to remind you to go. And in the case of this sticker, specifically to remind you of the holy name of Jesus.
The initials “IHS” are the first three letters in the Greek spelling of Jesus. So they represent the name of God and are often found imprinted into the host or carved into the decorations on an altar.
Often at Mass you’ll see the priest and some laity bowing their heads every time the name of Jesus is said as a sign of respect. It used to be that that would happen in every day conversations as well.
So be reminded of the name of Christ and His presence in the Eucharist with this simple sticker.
