Description
Mary’s motherhood was largely hidden with the child Jesus, there’s not much in the Bible about those early days before Jesus started His public ministry.
But her life would have been deeply steeped in prayer, contemplation of her son, and dedication to His needs, as every mother knows. But it’s in contemplation of Mary’s motherhood that I think has the power to transform the difficulties and banalities of motherhood, into their own prayers. Jesus was fully human, and with that He was fully a baby, with all those stages of development and life.
Mary deeply knows the hidden life of a mother.

This sketch was part of a series that highlighted some of my favorite paintings and sculptures hidden in churches in Rome. Some are massive statues in St. Peter’s Basilica while others adorn quiet corners high up in the ceiling.
Moments of prayer brought into a sketch, highlighting the contemplative nature of our Faith, listening to God’s voice in a whisper.
