Description
This is the second title for Mary in the Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
I immediately knew that for Holy Mother of God I wanted to show Mary as pregnant. So, I was inspired by Our Lady of Guadalupe because it’s one of the only images of Mary that shows her pregnant.
As the Holy Mother of God, I wanted to show how the Holy Spirit overshadowed Mary, conceiving in her womb the Christ-child. This relationship between Mary and the Trinity is what makes Mary the Mother of God.
Jesus didn’t just become holy later in life – He was God fully from conception just as He was fully human. Mary carried God Himself in her womb.
There’s so many incredible meditations on this fact, the highlight of which is Mary as the first Eucharistic procession as well as her being the Ark of the Covenant.

I absolutely love this print! The serenity on Mother Mary’s face and her cradling her pregnant belly are so beautiful! Monica captured Mary’s serenity so well.

This has become my family’s favorite Marian image in our home. We set it out this Mother’s Day to remember our heavenly mother, and it made the day that much more special. It’s a gorgeous print!
