Do you know painting of Jesus, in the midst of the Passion, crying? He’s wearing red with the crown of thorns.
It’s titled “For God so Loved the World” and for a really long time I avoided looking at it. It was just too painful to encounter Jesus in pain and crying.
But He did it for us. For you and for me.
The least I can do is encounter Him there and thank Him for everything.
At some point I noticed the little Sacred Heart on the painting, and being so devoted to the hearts (and they’re my favorite thing to paint), I knew this one would be next to paint.
With the cross in the background, the heart in front of a white circle, symbolizing the Host, the intense red of the blood of the Passion, the crown of thorns in a circle symbolizing the never ending life of God without beginning or end – it’s all so powerful.
I pray this painting would serve as a reminder of our call to make Christ the center of our lives, and why it is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation (to quote the Mass) to do so.
