The vibrant brightness of these blue agate beads set in stunning contrast with the milky white spacers and jet black seed beads reminds me of the innocence of childhood. “Totus Tuus” was the motto of Saint John Paul the Great (Pope John Paul II). It is the beginning of the prayer of consecration to Jesus through Mary that JPII would pray every day. It simply means “totally yours”.
What is stopping you from being totally Mary’s – totally Christ’s? Is it a habitual sin you just can’t seem to stop doing? Is it a filled schedule with no time? Is it fear about being seen as different by your coworkers, neighbors, or even family? Maybe you just have never thought about being totally Christ’s and are just trying to be a good Christian; a good person. I have been there. In every one of these situations. Do you know what got me out? Adding in something small to my day; something manageable. A decade of a rosary, a morning offering, ten minutes of reading scripture. What small step can you take today?
John Paul the Great’s greatest mission was to bring the youth back to God. To engage them as not just the future of the Church by the Church herself. Just because they are young does not mean they don’t have questions or that they don’t have anything valuable to add to the Body of Christ.
This rosary got it’s name as a suggestion from one of my friends Maria (thank you!) and I immediately realized it was perfect. Youthful zeal meets the realness of suffering in the black agate Our Father bead and gunmetal black center piece and crucifix. Passion meets pain. Joy meets sorrow. These emotions run deeply in the heart of every young person, not just the innocence of youth.
To round it out, the center piece has an image of the Immaculate Heart of Mary – in honor of Totus Tuus – with the Jerusalem cross on the reverse – to remind us of the land Jesus walked in his earthly life. The crucifix has a Benedictine Medal inlaid in the cross which is a powerful sacramental for spiritual battle.
The rosary is assembled with 49-strand steel beading wire, crimping beads, and wire protectors, so it is super strong and will last a lifetime of use. While I do strength test every rosary, it is still a handmade piece and prone to human error. So, should it break, simply gather all the beads you can find and contact me and I’ll gladly repair it for you for free sans shipping and the replacement of missing parts; major beads, the crucifix, and the centerpiece.
