We will work back and forth to create the piece. There are a couple checkpoints along the way, first is just taking about your idea to understand scope and the idea. Then I’ll give you quotes based on size once I understand the complexity of the piece you’re looking for. Next half the payment (non-refundable) will be due before work continues. After I’ll complete a thumbnail sketch (sometimes multiple) to be approved by you and so you can better direct me towards your vision. Once you approve the sketch I’ll make a full color complete sketch that will give a better idea of the final piece that I’ll show you before moving onto the canvas. I’ll paint it all and show you when it’s done for final approval (I can make small adjustments here, but not big ones). Once you approve the finished piece the other half of payment will be due, generally I’ll send you the payment link while the painting drys which can take about 2 weeks. Once it’s dried and varnished and all the payments are completed I’ll ship it to you!

Timeline will depend on my busyness, and will take 3 months to a year. If you have a deadline please let me know as that will help me plan out the painting the best. And without a deadline I can tend to overthink the piece and not work on it as quickly as I would be able to if there was a real due date.

Payment for all of commissions is half up front (non-refundable) and half upon completion and before shipping. Payments can be split more, but must all be in before shipping.

Paintings can be done on stretched linen canvases, which can hang by themselves, or on linen panels, which cannot. I much prefer linen panels (linen adhered to 3/8″ plywood) for all paintings 11×14 or smaller. For a super archival version I can also paint on aluminum linen panels which will prevent all buckling and cracking that will happen over time (like over the next several decades/centuries. If you look at paintings in museums everything on stretched canvas will have cracks but paintings on aluminum or copper will not, even if it’s several hundreds of years old. The panels are much more pricy and depends on if it’s a personal painting for yourself or something you want to pass down for generations. It is unlikely to form cracks in your lifetime unless it goes through many humidity changes)

For paintings on linen panels/aluminum, optional custom handmade frames with genuine gold leaf are available. These are my favorite frames to display art. Constructed out of real wood and meticulously carved and painted, you can’t find quality like it in stores. As with all custom made frames, it will be pricy, but in my opinion it’s worth it 100x over. Click here for some examples.
