Description
Born in 1895 in El Paso, IL, Fulton became a priest for the diocese of Peoria in Illinois where he served for many years and started hosting his radio show, The Catholic Hour which ran from 1930-1950. He became the Archbishop of New York the following year, and the year after that made the move to television with the show Life is Worth Living that ran for 5 years. A couple years after it ended he returned for the The Fulton Sheen Program which ran for another 7 years and earned him an Emmy for Most Outstanding Television Personality.
Clips from these shows circulate online, especially on EWTN, and if you’ve never watched them, I highly recommend you look some up. His charismatic nature and simple explanations and poignant metaphors/examples always strike me, and leave me thinking about the topic for a long time.
I chose an older image of him as my reference, particularly because of the book he was holding: a symbol of his teacherly ways.
