Description
The Consecration. Dramatic, Otherworldly. Silent. Awesome.
The poised moment when the Pieta is offered once again to God. The death of Jesus as propitiation for our sins. By His blood we are redeemed.
The Host blends with the statue, hovering right below the hand of Christ. He almost touches it, points to it. Even in this visage of His death we see the connection made plain.
The angels sorrow over the death of God. Mary makes intercession for us, moving our heart to pity and conversion.
The three time chiming of the bells is the only sound in the church. The Host has become the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity and in this moment we the laity adore our God.

The church in this painting is Notre Dame in Paris, France. Since it burned, I have no idea if there even is Mass yet, but when I saw this image of the pieta altar I fell in love.
Painted as an illustration for Kimberly Fries’ book: Traditional Latin Mass: A Missal for Children found here: https://amzn.to/3FnasK0
(For the Latin Mass loving Catholics checking for Churches to go to, let me know what they celebrate. Fun fact about this image, it’s the only church in this series that I have not been to, so I have no idea.)
