Regina Caeli Rosary
October 20, 2018
This sea-foamy green/teal bead color is my new favorite color. It’s delicate but bold and reminds me of fluffy clouds on a spring day. The tiny, slightly reflective spacer beads just add to the regality of the rosary.
Regina Caeli is Latin for Queen of Heaven. I already had the Queen of Heaven rosary, but this one, for very different reasons, reminded me of Mary’s royalty. The bead caps glitter in the light, and the beads are light and airy like the sky, but it goes deeper than that.
Mary isn’t queen because she lead the apostles or was a great sovereign – she was simply the mother of God and lived as a perfect mirror of her son – humble before God and wholly obedient to his will. Jesus elevated her to Queen of Heaven and Earth because she is a perfect model for us to follow (after Jesus himself, of course). Her whole life was a pointing to Heaven and as our mother she ever guides us to Christ.
It is also recorded in the Gospels that she “pondered all these things in her heart”. She didn’t gossip or complain or tell everyone about the incredible things happening in her life – she brought them to God in the secret of her heart.
The Hail Mary beads remind me of this. They are so smooth and tranquil and they complement the Our Father beads perfectly, making them more beautiful.
The Our Father beads are transparent red czech glass and any time the sun shines through them they light up with a rich red. They remind me of the Passion of Christ. But they aren’t just red beads. On the surface of the glass they have a swirling, speckled pattern in blues and greens that so perfectly matches the coloring of the Hail Mary beads you’d think they were made specifically for each other. Just as the simplicity of Mary’s life so perfectly complements the mystery of Christ.
To go with the bright silver bead caps, both the crucifix and centerpiece are a brilliant silver. The center piece is an incredibly detailed double sided silver piece with the Sacred Heart of Jesus on one side and Our Lady of Fatima on the reverse. If you don’t know much about either these devotions – go look them up right now. They’re really bomb; I was so excited to find them together on the same center piece. The crucifix is 2-in tall with flared ends and just the slightest tinting of teal.
The beads are jade stone and have a weight to them, which I always find helps me really focus when I’m praying. They also take on the ambient temperature of the room- so in winter I usually find my rosary to be a little chilly- just another reminder that you’re praying! But they also quickly warm up from your body heat.
At 16.5 inches long, with 8mm beads, this rosary is roughly the same size as your standard rosary. And the rosary is assembled in what is called the Heirloom Quality style which means it is strung on 19-strand steel beading wire with crimping beads so it is super strong and will last a lifetime of use. While I do strength test every rosary, it is still a handmade piece and prone to human error. So, should it break, simply gather all the beads you can find and contact me and I’ll gladly repair it for you for free sans shipping and the replacement of major beads (if you loose the spacers, don’t even worry about it).
I’m so excited to release this rosary! It honestly might be my favorite one I’ve designed so far.
